About

Austin is a second generation native Houstonian from the western suburbs of Houston. He quickly discovered a love for American Sign Language during his sophomore year of High School while fulfilling his foreign language credit. After graduating High School he went on to pursue a degree in Interpreter Training Technology at Lone Star Community College – CyFair. After graduating in 2014 Austin began working for the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) as a Rehabilitation Services Technician. During his tenure at DARS he supported a Deaf counselor who managed a Deaf and Hard of Hearing vocational rehabilitation caseload. After leaving DARS, Austin went to work for an interpreting agency where he gained a breadth of knowledge about the spoken language and sing language interpreting industries. In the Fall of 2017 Austin decided to focus on the sign language interpreting industry and began working at Crabtree Interpreting Services as an Interpreter Coordinator. It was while working for Crabtree that he successfully achieved the BEI-Basic certification in the fall of 2019. But he didn’t stop there, in February of 2020 Austin took his BEI-Advanced certification test. However, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic his results were delayed and he wasn’t notified of his successful performance on the BEI-Advanced certification until the fall of 2020. In March of 2020 right before the hight of the pandemic Austin began his career as a Video Interpreter for a Video Relay Company. At the present moment Austin is currently living his dream as an independent American Sign Language Interpreter in the Greater Houston area.
